new year, “new mutants”

After the debacle that was Dark Phoenix, I thought that the X-Men film franchise as we know it was dead, but this looks really cool:

Back in the 80’s and early 90’s, I was a hardcore X-Men fan, buying and reading any X-title I could get get my hands on.  That, of course, included The New Mutants, of which I collected all 100 issues.

(Fun Fact #1: Fan favorite Deadpool first appeared in New Mutants #98, and his movie nemesis Cable first appeared as an adult in NM #87)

I’m optimistic about the new movie: in addition to having some of my favorite New Mutants, it also stars the terrific Maisie Williams (who played Arya in Game of Thrones), includes Lockheed the Dragon, and looks as creepy and scary as all get-out (not unlike my novel This Wasted Land).

(Fun Fact #2: Lockheed was an inspiration for Pearl from my novel Dragontamer’s Daughters).

New Mutants comes out April 3.

Kenton Kilgore writes kickass SF/F for young adults and adults who are still young.  His latest novel is This Wasted Land, which isn’t your typical teenage love story.  It’s Boy meets Girl; Evil Witch snatches Boy; Girl goes to get Boy back.

He he is the author of Lost Dogs, the story of the end of the world as seen, heard–and smelled–by a dog.  He also wrote Dragontamer’s Daughters, like Little House on the Prairie…with dragons!  With Patrick Eibel, he created Our Wild Place, a children’s book about the joy to be found in exploring Nature.
